Job Description

The role

What were looking for:

Are you passionate about tech and hungry for an opportunity to develop yourself within an award-winning organisation?

Do you want to work with an innovative and fully agile team?

If so, we may have just the opportunity you are looking for!

We are recruiting multiple UI Engineers to expand our capacity for facilitating changes to our existing web applications, with a view to completely overhauling our web estate in the near future using the latest technologies.

You do not need to have years of experience under your belt, just a curious and ambitious attitude with a strong desire to learn and hone your craft.

Youll need knowledge of HTML, JavaScript, CSS and version control using Git. Any experience with JavaScript frameworks such as Angular would be highly desirable. In addition, there are some inhouse custom technologies that you will be working with, so we want tool-agnostic engineers with an interest in broadening their skillset.

Who youll be working with:

These vacancies are for roles within the Direct Line for Business tribe. You will be joining the Small and Medium Enterprise Development squad, which provides insurance offerings for small- and medium-sized businesses through web and phone. Our squads are cross-functional, meaning you will be joining a group of experts that each represent their own craft, such as development, testing and business analytics. In addition, you will be joining the wider community of over 30 UI engineers that exist within the Engineering chapter, spanning across all of the squads in the business.

What youll be doing:

Build features for our web applications using the edgeConnect suite.

Work towards building a new web application using Angular or some other JavaScript framework.

Work with QA engineers to create robust unit tests and assist with the maintenance of testing scripts.

Become an expert in building responsive web pages using HTML, CSS, SCSS and JavaScript/TypeScript, working from Sketch files delivered by our in-house design team.

Work with code repositories, using version control such as Git.

Perform cross-browser testing and build resilient pages using progressive enhancement.

Adhere to industry and in-house accessibility standards.

Understand the importance of frontend methodologies, such as BEM for CSS.

Champion the Agile framework

What well give you:

Come join us and youll find yourself in the middle of one of the most on-the-go teams in the business, with autonomy and exposure to industry leaders on huge household brand names. Were always encouraging internal development and youll have access to loads of learning opportunities, events and conferences to build your industry knowledge.
