In DLG, we refer to Site Reliability Engineering Managers as Chapter Leads, in our Reliability Engineering community. As a Chapter Lead you will lead by example within your squad and across your community, building confidence and enable your team to grow and develop.

Using your expertise, you'll help set the standards and methodology within the chapter, sharing knowledge, training, coaching and mentoring others. In DLG, Chapter Leads in the Reliability Engineering community are expected to contribute in the engineering day-to-day, combining software and systems engineering disciplines to build and run large-scale, fault-tolerant systems so that users' overall happiness with features, service, and performance is optimised. In addition to this, you'll participate in regular meetings with Product Owners, Chapter Leads & Agile Coaches to conduct squad members performance reviews, identifying training needs and managing individual performance levels. You will report to your Chapter Area Lead.

Who you'll be working with:

Working within the Reliability Engineering community within the Technology organisation at DLG who are passionate about supporting the development of your technical and leadership skills.

What you'll be doing:

As a Leader in the Reliability Engineering community at DLG you will be:

Using your engineering skill set to deliver reliable and agile technology solutions

Demonstrating a desire to continually master the craft of reliability engineering

Actively manage risk, quality and architectural and technical debt to ensure we deliver on our promises to customers and are there for them in their hour of need

Using your interpersonal skills to give advice and effectively convey sophisticated technical messages to audiences without a technology background

Owning services and applications that run on on-premise solutions that support our insurance business

Coding in Shell, Python, Java, SQL and/or PL/SQL as well as peer reviewing code

Iteratively improving ETL/SAS/iSeries technologies and solutions

Providing on call support, solving real world problems, conducting Blameless Post-mortems, then crafting and implementing technical solutions to mitigate reoccurrence

Building and maintaining operational runbooks, streamlining procedures and ETL jobs, and automating routine tasks

Researching new technologies and architectural patterns by conducting technical Proof of Concepts (PoC) and propose improvements to existing platforms as well as migration from legacy systems

Designing, building, owning and running observability, dashboards, monitoring and alerting tooling such as AppDynamics and Tivoli

Defining and implementing SRE standards and best practices

Working closely with other subject areas including, functional and non-functional testing, security and operations, in order to design, build and operate highly resilient and secure solutions

Contributing to the overall product roadmap

Mentoring and supporting the career development of SREs

Participating in building the Reliability Engineering organisation in DLG through affective recruitment
