Job Description

We are looking for an exceptionally talented Lead UX Designer to drive the user experience for Metro.co.uk. You will act as a pivot point between editorial, tech and the user and have a substantial opportunity to influence the day-to-day development of products. You will report directly to the Head of UX and Design. The role exists in our head office in London just outside of High Street Kensington tube station.

About Metro

Metro.co.uk brings a wide variety of digital content to millions of unique visitors every day. From breaking news and in-depth analysis, to showbiz and sport, Metro covers the critical current events of the moment along with engaging stories that inform, entertain and inspire conversation. This multitude of content is delivered across an array of platforms including a responsive website, Facebook, Twitter, Apple News, Flipboard and more.

About the role and responsibilities

You are an expert at requirements gathering, user research, competitive benchmarking and stakeholder engagement. You can create detailed process flows, sitemaps, and annotated wireframes. Ideally, youre able to rapidly create interactive prototypes to bring ideas to life.

You are genuinely interested in the Metro.co.uk brand. You will use it regularly across all touch-points, and you will proactively come up with improvements and new ideas for driving audience traffic and engagement.

You are self-motivated and keep up with industry developments in User Experience, Design, and Technology. You dont need a professional background in media or journalism, but a sincere interest in all types of news, and the news industry is needed.

You are proficient when it comes to creating products for desktop and mobile devices, and you have a strong understanding of responsive design. You also have a deep understanding of social media environments, and aggregating platforms.

You are a creative thinker and problem solver able to grasp an editorial need and come up with solutions fast, present these back to the editorial and development teams and get their buy in. Needless to say, you also need to be a collaborative worker, but strong enough to push back if you believe that editorial / user needs are being compromised unnecessarily.

You thrive on getting projects live efficiently and quickly. You will have big-picture objectives but be able to focus on delivering quality MVPs with plans to analyse and iterate towards end-goals.

You love data and have good analytical skills. You will use data to monitor live projects, discover and get to the bottom of issues, come up with enhancements to existing features, and create ideas for new purposeful features and products.
