We currently have an fantastic opportunity to join our Bromley based Group Legal team as a Competition Lawyer, on part-time 12 Months Fixed Term Contract basis.

The Role:

You will provide Direct Line Group with expert, commercial, efficient legal services on all significant UK competition law matters including UK/EC competition enquiries and investigations and corporate acquisitions and disposals.

Working with the Senior Legal Counsel, Competition & Anti-Bribery, General Counsel, and the other team members to ensure effective co-ordination and co-operation across the team and to deliver a consistent approach to the provision of legal advice.

What you'll be doing:

Delivering clear, accurate and succinct advice within relevant timescales and to adopt a commercial and proactive approach when advising businesses.

Sharing skills, experience, standard methodology and know-how.

Working with the businesses and their core teams to understand the needs of Direct Line Group and supporting the delivery of the business support plans.

Managing legal risk within Direct Line Group to ensure risks are identified and evaluated and formulating robust solutions to mitigate legal risk.

Identifying, evaluating and raising reputational risk issues to relevant business management and other control areas.

Ensuring all legal support stays in sync with Direct Line Group Legal Policy and the legal and regulatory framework within which Direct Line Group operates.

What we are looking for:

Solicitor or barrister, with 2+ years PQE (or equivalent).

Detailed experience of competition law, including merger control and UK/EU sector investigations and merger control gained from either working in a major commercial firm or in-house, ideally within the financial services industry.

Experience of the insurance sector in particular would be advantageous but is not crucial.

Ability to establish, build and maintain positive relationships with key partners.

Ability to set and achieve high performance targets.

Strong commercial awareness and analytical skills.

Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with Direct Line Group colleagues.

Manage the provision of external legal advice on an efficient, value for money basis.

Hours: 17.5 hrs p/w, Flexible

Contract: 12 Months FTC, with potential to extend further for the right candidate.
