Applications are now open for the new Chief Executive of the Scottish Prison Service who will also be a Director within the Scottish Government and a senior member of the Education, Communities and Justice Management Team.
The Chief Executive post is a significant, and highly visible role, with regular Ministerial contact and a high external profile. The post holder is a member of the Justice Board and is therefore a key player in the leadership of the Justice System in Scotland.
The Chief Executive establishes the strategic direction of the SPS in conjunction with the Scottish Government; ensures public accountability, assures probity and integrity, allocates resources, monitors performance, reviews and manages risk and develops capability and performance.
This is a unique senior civil service role will lead a high profile public service in Scotlands justice system and will be responsible for the management 15 prisons, a range of private sector contracts and the safety and well-being of 7500 people in custody and 4500 staff.
