Job Description

BEIS plays a leading role in tackling climate change and driving decarbonisation so there couldnt be a more critical moment to lead the UK (and indeed the rest of the world) in fundamentally transforming our economy to both reduce emissions and capture economic advantage.

The DG Net Zero Buildings and Industry will make a significant contribution to delivering the Energy, Net Zero and R&D portfolio for the department and will drive the delivery of our Net Zero ambition. A new role, it brings together the majority of the key delivery programmes and projects for Net Zero, aligning strategy and policy with delivery in the Heat and Industrial Energy spaces.

Reporting directly to the Permanent Secretary, and with direct line management for 7, the post holder will lead a wider team of c550 staff based across the UK and have responsibility for a budget of c4.6bn (with likely growth). As a senior figure in the North West, the role holder will also be central to establishing a substantial presence for the Department in Manchester, making sure the programme to deliver the world-changing impact of Net Zero, creates jobs and economic opportunity across the UK

This is a high profile and demanding role that will have responsibility for delivery of the majority of the large, complex delivery programmes across the Net Zero and energy portfolio. The successful candidate will need to be an exceptional leader with extensive senior management experience and a strong track record of delivery to demanding metrics within a policy or strategic environment. Being able to build effective partnerships, to influence, persuade and lead across a complex delivery environment and through others, including within the Energy, Science and R&D sectors, is also key.
