Summary

This bespoke programme has been developed in partnership with our training provider, Wiltshire College Chippenham, to enable apprentices to acquire the underpinning knowledge and skills required for a range of roles.

Our vision is to create a Gateway of opportunities within which you will learn about Dstl. This is a great way to explore future career pathways and to develop and demonstrate a wide ranging skill set.

On successful completion of the Apprenticeship the training programme has previously led to many exciting roles across the business. These have included: Range Technician, Workshop Technician, Electronic Engineer and higher level apprenticeships such as Ordnance Munitions and Explosives Engineering, Embedded Electronics and Cyber Systems.

Job description

This role will include - Electronics fault finding, testing equipment, calibration of equipment, a basic understanding of mechanical manufacturing and CAD design.

This Apprenticeship responds to the changing demands of the business. We recently included additional modules such as: RF (Radio Frequency) Fundamentals, Micro Controllers, and Coding & Programming.

Year 1 - College Full time

Year 2 - Placements plus day release

Year 3 & 4 - Full time placements leading to End Point Assessment

Throughout the apprenticeship you will be encouraged to develop and demonstrate the underpinning knowledge, skills and behaviours outlined in the apprenticeship standard. You will also undertake an End Point Assessment, which you must pass to acquire a permanent role within the organisation.

You will need to be responsible for your development through Independent Learning to realise your full potential.

We will encourage you to demonstrate dedication and engagement during the apprenticeship programme to our organisation and training partner.

Working alongside Dstl colleagues will enable you to complete tasks and work to the quality and timescales required. You will be encouraged to participate fully in the learning opportunities available from Dstl and other organisations.

Responsibilities

Applicants must be 18 years of age at the start of the programme, Sept 2021

Candidates must be UK Nationals.

Must hold at least 5 GCSEs (or equivalent) at grade 4 or above, which must include Math, English and at least one science.

Qualifications

Things you need to know

Security

Successful candidates must pass a disclosure and barring security check.

Successful candidates must meet the security requirements before they can be appointed. The level of security needed is security check.

People working with government assets must complete basic personnel security standard checks.

Selection process details

This vacancy is using Success Profiles, and will assess your Behaviours, Ability and Experience.

Previous skills and experience could include your hobbies or any engineering type interests. eg, vehicle maintenance, building computers/gaming stations.

As part of the application you will need to successfully complete 2 online ability tests, The Civil Service Numerical Reasoning Test and the Civil Service Situational Judgement Test. These tests must be completed before you finish your application, so please make sure you do these as soon as you can, they MUST be completed by 1200 on 25th February 2021.

Assessments will be held 13th and 14th April 2021 and will consist of separate technical and behavioural interviews. you may be asked to talk about what you enjoy doing technically and why you are applying for this apprenticeship.

Due to COVID restrictions interviews could be held via video links.

Feedback will only be provided if you attend an interview or assessment.
