Job Description

Ministers are looking to appoint up to three Non-Executive Members to the Food Standards Agency (FSA). The FSA has a statutory remit to protect the health of the public and the interests of consumers in relation to food.

As a Member of the FSA you will be responsible for ensuring the organisation discharges its statutory duties. You will also set and reinforce the FSAs core values through the development and monitoring of strategic objectives, plans and policies. 

Candidates will be required to demonstrate: an awareness of consumer interests in relation to food and how the global food system is changing; strong decision making skills; and being a strong strategic thinker. New members will ideally be able to bring skills and experience in one or more of the following areas:

Expertise in innovation which is relevant to food products/processes or delivery routes to the consumer

Experience in supporting and delivering a reduction in regulatory burden

Expertise in data analytics or technological innovation

Understanding of large and small business needs and issues

Experience in complex international business or governmental issues

Insight into public health in relation to food

A senior scientist

Veterinary experience

The Non-Executive Members will receive remuneration of £8,000 per annum for a time commitment of 20 days per annum. 

Ministers determine the length of appointment, which will be for up to 3 years.
