The Law Society is the independent professional body for solicitors. We exist to safeguard the rule of law, represent our members, and drive excellence in the profession.
We support our members by offering practice advice and guidance so that they can better develop their careers and serve their clients. We also advise the public on how and when to seek legal advice, and we promote solicitors as reliable experts who can offer invaluable help at important moments in life. Our campaigns and lobbying on matters that impact on the solicitors’ profession focus on pressing legal issues affecting the public interest and confidence in the rule of law, such as court closures and legal aid cuts.
We promote England and Wales as the global jurisdiction of choice and the vital role of legal services in our economy. We also work internationally to open markets to our members and to defend human rights while supporting our members with opportunities in the domestic market.
To support the work of The Law Society, we are seeking to appoint a member to each of the Sub Committees to the Board; Finance and Investment Committee and People and Remuneration Committee.
The Finance and Investment Committee’s role is to oversee The Law Society’s financial policies, framework and its risk management and investment arrangements for the board. We are looking for a skilled financial leader to join the Committee who has prior experience of strategic financial management and of constructively challenging financial and investment issues within an environment with complex governance.
The People and Remuneration Committee exercises oversight for the Board on The Law Society’s’ People Agenda and sets the overarching principles for remuneration across the organisation. We are looking for an HR professional to join the Committee who will bring strategic HR thinking and experience of building workplace relations, organisational change, recruitment and resourcing.
The Society are committed to having a variety of backgrounds, voices and expertise represented within our workforce, membership and governance infrastructure. We believe that championing equality, inclusion and diversity are an integral part of our work and have a clear mandate to support and empower those with protected characteristics.
We actively encourage candidates from a diverse background and with protected characteristics to apply for these positions which will help us to amplify diversity of thought and bring new and challenging perspectives to the table.
As we seek to broaden our areas of professional expertise on the Committees, we encourage applications from individuals who may be seeking their first non-executive role.
Applications need not be from a legal or professional background.
