Job Description

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced and commercially aware Economist to provide robust economic analysis which clearly articulates economic value creation in support of business cases both in the UK and international markets.  You will develop and lead the internal economic capability to support business growth.

The Economist will:

Support the commercial growth strategy through assessing economic value creation

Create economic value creation models across a broad range of business and use cases, and recommend adjustments to further improve value

Explain specific economic value creation in a way that multiple stakeholders, including customers, can consume

Lead team members by example, manage performance and provide development opportunities to maximise their contribution to Ordnance Survey

Act as a business-wide expert in their field to ensure delivery and sustainability of the business

What were looking for:

A recognised economics qualification at degree level or preferably higher

Highly effective economic analysis skills must be able to articulate relevant insights from data to a wide range of audiences, both written and verbally

A track record of robust economic modelling which has formed part of successful business cases

Experience in appraisal and evaluation methods using the UK Governments Green Book

Experience of articulating economic value for international projects

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as presentation skills, with the ability to engage, persuade and influence

Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and sustain relationships both within OS and with external organisations

Experience of working in a matrix structure, with both business, functional and subject matter experts

Ability to work independently and effectively on projects, while being part of a team

Exposure to corporate strategic planning and the strategy creation process

Location: This role will be based at our state-of-the-art Headquarters in Southampton. However, all our people, where they can, are currently working from home.
