Working for the UK Government's Science and Technology organisation your role will be to build and manage a cohesive team to ensure the effective delivery of Defence projects. You will join a team of professional project managers managing projects that range from short term, with tight timescales, to major Defence procurement projects which can span a number of years.

We have two Level 5 Project Manager roles available within our Cyber and Information Systems Division (CIS). CIS delivers a range of projects in high impact areas such as space, cyber defence and data science. At the heart of the Division's objectives is a drive to demonstrate technical excellence. Together with our partners, we work with agility and pace to earn external renown for our work and our contribution to Defence's mission.

Job description

We are looking for individuals who can:

- Demonstrate a strong background in project leadership, including planning and delivery

- Work with multidisciplinary teams across the breadth of the organisation

- Show their recent successful delivery of the full project life cycle, including quality assurance and financial planning and management

- Demonstrate effective project control and reporting

- Demonstrate the ability to lead, influence and motivate a broad team to deliver exploitable project outputs

- Be clear and confident in communicating, both in writing and verbally, and who can deliver messages to a range of different audiences

- Manage complex and sensitive relationships with both internal and external stakeholders

- Demonstrate an enthusiasm for continued professional development and convey the importance of effective project management to deep technical specialists

- Support the development of, and mentor, Project Support Officers.

Responsibilities

In this role you will have the following responsibilities:

Delivery Create and lead the project to deliver the agreed outcomes within time, cost and quality constraints.

Project Management Day to day management and leadership of the project and the project team. Design the project structure appropriate to stage. Select and apply appropriate delivery methodologies.

Project Performance & Controls Build Project Plan and apply appropriate project principles to deliver stated objectives. Identify and set appropriate Project Controls. Track and report delivery against milestones.

Budget Track delivery within budget.

Resources Schedule / manage resources to deliver the project. May work independently or with a small team.

Stakeholder Management Identify key stakeholders and develop effective relationships.

Risks & Issues Identify and monitor project risks and issues. Develop mitigating actions and escalate as appropriate.

Governance Provide key reports and support effective governance and decision making.

Assurance Support or set appropriate project assurance.

Change Management Ensure effective Change Management processes are in place to agree and document changes to deliverables as agreed with stakeholders.

Guidance & Support Seek appropriate support, guidance and coaching from the project community. Show commitment to personal development. Promote effective individual and team performance.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience Needed

Qualifications

Essential

APM Project Management Qualification (PMQ) or equivalent;

Contract Management Capability Programme (CMCP) Foundation (CMCP) (or achieved within first three months).
