London

The work of the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy (BEIS) is fast-paced, forward-thinking and deeply interesting. With a shared determination to support the British population and ensure our economy is thriving, we provide unparalleled career opportunities for our people.  From developing bold initiatives that will enhance the growth potential of UK businesses, through to ensuring a plentiful supply of energy for the nation, our cutting-edge expertise is shaping the best possible future for the UK. And when you join our Smart Metering Implementation programme, you will be at the heart of this ambition.

This is one of the most significant change projects the energy sector has witnessed in decades. As a member of the senior leadership team, you will help successfully deliver this vital programme, alongside a diverse and multidisciplinary team of colleagues. Taking ownership of the programmes policy framework, you will provide advice to senior stakeholders including Ministers, and you will ensure alignment with wider departmental energy and consumer initiatives. In maintaining regulatory strategy and a good working relationship with Ofgem, you will see to it that we are putting the relevant obligations on energy suppliers and the industry. You will also chair the Programmes Design Authority, ensuring regulatory, technical, consumer engagement and programme decisions are in-line with policy goals. Building relationships with key stakeholders including energy suppliers, the Cabinet Office, No. 10 and HM Treasury, you will handle all media and ministerial correspondence and maintain oversight of governance across the whole programme.

To be equal to a challenge of this scale, you will have a background in successfully leading multidisciplinary teams within a complex organisation. As a strategic and lateral policy-thinker with experience of delivering large-scale programmes, you will be well versed in the challenges associated with such projects, and you will have the political awareness to handle issues as they arise. Crucially, you will be an enterprising leader and partner who has solid communication and influencing skills, and you will be able to constructively challenge stakeholders.  You will be a supportive leader, encouraging your team to bring their whole selves to work and you will build partnerships across the organisation and beyond, to deliver the best possible results.

This is a unique chance to be involved in a high-profile, nationally important project. Join us, and you will find a supportive workplace where your ideas and knowledge will translate into tangible results. Against the backdrop of a progressive team environment in which you will be encouraged to pursue your long-term goals, you are sure to excel in our team. So if you would relish the chance to take on a career-defining opportunity, then we would be delighted to receive your application.

Closing Date: 2 November 2020.
