About the role

Phoenix Group is building a thriving and growing open business.  Bulk Purchase Annuities (BPA) is a key business unit within Phoenix Group’s Open Business. To achieve this, the team needs to increase its asset modelling and analysis capability. As a result, we have an extraordinary opportunity to join our team at an exciting time, as we develop our proposition and the way we work to support our growth ambition.

The primary focus of this role will be to facilitate the setting the asset strategies and assumptions for BPA transactions efficiently, accurately and on time. There will also be opportunities to work on development projects, as we seek to expand our proposition for defined benefit pension schemes.

Provide support to the Bulk Annuity Pricing Manager in the setting of asset assumptions and strategies for the pricing of bulk annuity transactions

Take responsibility for modelling asset portfolios and assessing asset capital requirements, and performing in depth analysis to recommend appropriate assumptions and strategies

Build, develop, document, run and maintain models, ensuring robust controls and processes are followed (including development of bespoke financial models for strategic projects)

Contribute to ensuring deals are priced both accurately and commercially in line with Phoenix pricing and governance processes and delivered to agreed timescales

Effectively manage your workload and prioritise multiple projects appropriately

Liaise with the Phoenix Asset Management team to ensure that all risks are appropriately analysed, managed and mitigated and that governance processes are followed

Contribute to ad-hoc development projects across the BPA team.

Essential

Practical experience of fixed income analysis and modelling, including the development of cash flow models for bespoke projects and exercises

Experience of working in an investment role within an insurance/banking/consulting/investment management or similar environment

Strong problem solving and analytical skills, and the ability to work quickly and accurately with a high attention to detail

An appreciation of financial services companies and the regulatory environment in which they operate, including Solvency II and the Matching Adjustment

Excellent communication skills, including experience of interacting with a wide range of stakeholders (including external stakeholders)

Desirable

Specific experience of fixed income analysis and modelling within the context of a UK annuity fund

Commercial knowledge of pension de-risking products including bulk annuities

About us

Join the Phoenix Group, and you join a unique organisation. It’s not just the 10 million policyholders we serve, or the £240 billion of assets we look after. Or that we’ve been listed as one of the UK's Top Employers for seven years running. It’s the fact we manage predominantly closed life funds in our Heritage business. This means we can focus our innovative thinking and energy into improving customer outcomes and their customer experience.

But that’s not all. We also have an Open business which manufactures and underwrites new products and policies to support people saving for their future in areas such as workplace pensions and SIPPs. We also market corporate pension trustee services and manufacture products to be sold under other brands. Did you know Phoenix Life manufactures SunLife’s market leading Guaranteed Over 50’s plan?

Having acquired Standard Life Assurance Limited in 2018, Phoenix is now the largest consolidator of heritage life insurance funds in Europe with a vision to be Europe's Leading Life Consolidator.
