About the job


We are looking for a Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Development Specialist to join our small, lively, multifunctional team of pharmaceutical development employees and project managers where you will have responsibility for the oversight of provision of a number of Drug Substances and Drug Products across the lifecycle of the Dstl pharmaceutical product portfolio. This includes diverse products (primarily sterile parenterals) from small molecules to biologicals.

Youll be an integral part of an established research and development team which contains approximately 20+ staff with scientific, veterinary and clinical expertise and you will have responsibility for driving and taking ownership for pharmaceutical development manufacturing requirements, decisions and actions.

Job description

Dstl doesn't have a manufacturing capability in-house so these activities are procured externally. On a day-to-day basis you will work closely with Project Managers and project development teams in supporting the following range of activities:

- Developing manufacturing strategies and plans

- Providing specialist manufacturing advice to the project teams

- Handling Contract Manufacturing Organisations (CMOs) and external providers of manufacturing activities

- Reviewing manufacturing data including Batch Manufacturing Records (BMRs), analytical results, specifications etc.

- Supporting technical oversight visits and audits of CMOs and external providers of manufacturing activities

- Working with project teams to ensure Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs), Drug Substances and Drug Products are available to schedule to enable non-clinical and clinical studies

- Lead on the development of Statement of Requirements and Tender Assessments for subcontracted manufacturing activities

- Contribution to Regulatory Authority scientific advice meetings

- Contribution to regulatory documents (e.g. Investigator Brochures (IBs), Investigational Medicinal Product Dossiers (IMPDs), Clinical Trial Applications (CTAs), Common Techniocal Documents (CTDs) etc.)

- Take ownership and responsibility for delivering key manufacturing subcontracted activities

- Robustly lead subcontracted organisations

- Provide strong leadership in this specialist area

- Work efficient within a team environment to help ensure the achievement of project goals

- Communicate data to multi-functional teams

- Be proactive in identifying pharmaceutical manufacturing knowledge gaps


You will need to have

- Experience in either pharmaceutical process development and/or formulation or analytical development relating to sterile parenteral products

- Proven evidence of applying regulatory requirements and mentors to pharmaceutical development projects

- Proven experience of developing successful manufacturing strategies and plans

- Proven experience of efficient leading subcontracted pharmaceutical manufacturing activities

- Demonstrable experience of working to cGMP

- Good IT Skills
