Job Description

Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust needs Non-Executive Directors who can help us become outstanding while the COVID 19 pandemic plays out and as we ask whether our Board reflects the gender and ethnic makeup of our staff and the diversity of the people we serve. We are hoping to make one appointment immediately, with the prospect of others in 2021.

This is an exciting time. A new chief executive, Dr Nick Broughton, has just taken over. We are playing an energetic part in integrating care in the Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire and Berkshire West system and promoting provider collaboratives in forensic, eating disorder and other services across the wider southwest of England.

Of course, we face challenges, among them securing fair funding for mental health, seizing the opportunities of digital working, building a just culture in our organisation and living up to being Safe, Caring and Excellent. But meeting them also opens opportunities: to better integrate mental health and community services, to link more closely with GPs, to achieve sustainability and climate change targets and throw open the upper levels of our organisation to all.

We need evidence to underpin what we do and so are proud of our close connection with the advance of fundamental and applied knowledge. We host the UKs only Biomedical Research Centre for Mental Health. We are working closely with the University of Oxford to redevelop our headquarters site into a hospital and research centre fit for the 21st century, while protecting its ancient buildings.

In the first instance, we want a new Non-Executive Director to extend and challenge our Board, especially over diversity and equalities. They might bring personal knowledge of the places we serve and our services. They would certainly understand the NHS, its ethic and cultures. They might have experience of corporate governance in a complex environment. Some personal authority is needed as our new recruit would be expected to chair groups and lead committees.

The Trust chair, David Walker, would be happy to talk informally to anyone interested. You can contact David via Elaine Jones, Executive Officer, by emailing  or calling 01865 902769 or for further information, please contact Tim Boylin, HR Director, on 07774 245616.
