“Harnessing the power of dialogue”
Established in 1946, Wilton Park is a world-renowned centre for discussion where leading figures meet to advance policy on key global issues. We organise a multitude of events and conferences in the UK and overseas, bringing together leading representatives from the worlds of politics, diplomacy, academia, business, civil society, the military and the media. Our network includes senior foreign policy makers, key specialists and respected thought leaders, and the number of participants is growing as we convene more meetings in new locations across the world.
We are an Executive Agency of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO). The FCO provides Wilton Park’s core financial resources and is ultimately responsible for the success of its activities. Our mission is to support the UK Government in the resolution of global foreign policy challenges by bringing together the best possible range of individuals from around the world and from a variety of sectors. The emphasis is on making the link between ideas, policy, and practical delivery, within a setting that enables open and constructive discussion: “Harnessing the power of dialogue to promote a fairer and a safer world”.
We are looking for an outstanding individual to be the Chief Executive of Wilton Park, so as to lead the staff team through a period of change and of growth, and to enhance further the organisation’s market profile and reputation as it passes its 75th anniversary.
As our new Chief Executive, you will need to bring a clear interest in this area of work, with an authentic leadership stylex that will enable you to maintain the strong relationship that we have established with the FCO and the rest of government (both in the UK and internationally), whilst ensuring an appropriate level of independence. This is a complex and often ambiguous landscape - you will need to understand it quickly in order to become a credible leader within it.
The Chief Executive will have to be the driving force for finding new ways of shaping dialogue, working with partners and maintaining a sustainable revenue base. You will therefore need to bring a track record of highly effective senior stakeholder engagement, along with the financial acumen to fulfil the accounting officer element of the role. You will also be able to bring innovation and creativity to ensure that Wilton Park develops and seizes new commercial opportunities, and maintains the international credibility that it has developed over the years.
This is a unique challenge and one that needs an emotionally intelligent and highly effective leader. Further information about this role is available by clicking on ‘Apply’
