Job Description

Location: Bristol with regular travel to London required

The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency plays a vital role in keeping Britains roads safe. Responsible for setting, testing and enforcing driver and vehicle standards across Great Britain, our vision is for safer drivers, safer vehicles and safer journeys for all.

This is a pivotal point for the organisation and we are seeking an inspirational CEO to take DVSA through a period of transformational change, with a backdrop of adapting our operating model to the Covid-19 pandemic, post-EU transition and a change away from trading fund status at the end of the financial year. Adapting our service to exciting technological developments in the transport sector will be key as we all fundamentally change the way we travel. Our critical role in responding to the changing needs of drivers, cyclists and vehicles and keeping our road network as one of the safest in the world, will never be more important.

DVSA has been successful in meeting our ambitious business targets for the last three years, delivering a substantial digital transformation programme and improved staff engagement scores year after year. Our new Chief Executive will need to build on this, leading us into the next stage of transformation and developing the future strategic direction of the Agency.

This role requires an exceptional leader with a demonstrable track record of driving change to deliver improved performance and establishing a culture of continuous improvement. You will have real commercial expertise and experience of delivering against ambitious targets in a complex customer focused environment. The ability to influence stakeholders at all levels is also imperative.

This role represents an opportunity to impact on the nationwide services that all of us rely on to help keep Britains roads safe.  If you feel you have this unique blend of skills and experience, we would like to hear from you.

The Civil Service is committed to becoming the most inclusive employer in the UK. We are committed to understanding, respecting and representing as broad a range of views and backgrounds as we have in UK society. We know that diverse perspectives and experiences are critical to an effective, modern Civil Service.
