Job Description

The University of Chester is seeking a senior leader who is committed to re-defining what a genuinely excellent student experience looks like. As a higher education provider founded in England in 1839 we are long-established yet keen to innovate and experiment.  We are not content with the status quo and are striving for the University of Chester student experience to be distinctive and future-focused.   We will only achieve this with a PVC who has energy and vision, who uses data and insight to determine investment priorities and who cares deeply about student outcomes.

The University is important to the economic and cultural life of the region with a very significant student placement programme. How can we maximise the positive impact of this and ensure all students are able to participate?  How do we work with students to progress societal issues such as race & gender equality, respect & consent and access & participation? How can technology bring efficiencies to student support without losing the personal touch?  If you are interested in these challenges and full of ideas on how to tackle them - then this may be the opportunity for you.

Reporting to the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Eunice Simmons, as the successful PVC Student Experience you will bring creativity and innovation to all aspects of the student journey to refine and deliver our strategic ambitions. Liaising with the Chester Students Union you will ensure that we provide an outstanding offer for all groups of students. With direct line management for a range of departments, including student support, student development and employability services, as Pro Vice Chancellor you will champion the student wellbeing and widening participation agendas; working to make the University of Chester a beacon of fairness, social justice and opportunity in higher education. You will need flexibility to be effective across nine distinctive sites, including in Chester, Warrington and Shrewsbury and liaison skills to connect with their different communities.  On the University Strategic Executive Team you will also get the opportunity to lead or contribute to cross-university priorities such as digital citizenship and sustainability.

As the successful candidate you will demonstrate a passion for the student voice, experience of driving change in dynamic environments, an ability to work collaboratively across stakeholders and a track record of sustained senior leadership to enable you to play a key role in the future of the institution.
