Delivering support with a difference. Thats when it hits home.

At Home Group its critical we continue to deliver services for our customers during the COVID-19 outbreak, and our awesome colleagues are at the very heart of making that happen. We're doing things a little differently at the moment, so to keep you and our customers safe, well engage with you digitally.

We have a rewarding opportunity for you to join our Transforming Care team, supporting our brilliant customers to live a fulfilling life in their own home within the local community.  Our team support customers who have complex support needs which may include autism, communication differences, learning disabilities, complex mental health conditions alongside ongoing physical health challenges.

Youll be supporting two wonderful, yet complex young men who are brothers and in fact twins!  They are autistic and love spending time indoors and outdoors doing the things they enjoy and are important to them. They have sensory processing difficulties and often seek out sensory feedback to help them regulate their emotions including playing music, exposure to running water, seeking out and repeating movements that are purposeful for them and other activities individual to both young men. This could be walking in the park with carers, enjoying the experience of being in a swimming pool or going out for a supported drive in the countryside.

Understanding how these fantastic young men respond to sensory messages is important to be aware of, as sometimes sounds and smells as well as touch can feel different for them and be over stimulating or something that they seek out.  With the understanding and the help of our clinical team, including our Positive Behavioural Support Specialist and Occupational Therapist, youll help coordinate activities and experiences meaningful to them and for them, so that they can participate in their favourite things as well as trying out new things that have been identified as aspirations for the future.

Youll provide consistent customer focused support and routines underpinned by predictability, effective ways to communicate determined by customer preference and a well-developed communication passport. You will use your knowledge of autism, our customers strengths, along the support of their amazing parents to maximise opportunities.  Youll be patient, have a calm disposition, great listening skills as well as remaining assertive and encouraging (youll also need to have a plan B always tucked under your belt!).

Youll initially support our customers as they transition to their permanent home in Birmingham.  Once they have moved into their lovely new home, youll manage our small team of frontline Positive Behavioural Support Workers in providing support that is person-centred, understands someones past life and experiences and builds on their strengths.  Together, youll be supporting them to enjoy the best quality of life and live as independently as possible.

As our team leader with responsibility for safeguarding, youll use your experience and brilliant skills in effectively motivating and directing colleagues.  Youll ensure our exciting new LIFE support practice model (Living Independently and Feeling Enabled) is delivered in a safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led way.  Well tell you all about it when we meet you!  Youll also oversee complex support, working with our customers when displaying any distressing behaviours and any requirement for personal care.

About our team

Youll report to Deb our Registered Manager who has worked for Home Group for 5 years.  Deb has loads of experience in working with customers with both mental health and learning disabilities. Deb has a clinical background in nursing and was an accredited psychotherapist in a previous life before joining Home Group.  Outside of work youll find her supporting her local football team, spending quality time with her family and just loves cooking for friends.

Where youll work

Youll initially work with both of our customers transitioning to their own home in Birmingham as well as supporting them in the community. Once theyre settled and weve recruited our new team, youll directly support only one of them.  Youll need to have a full current driving licence and access to a car and willing to drive to support our customers.

Working hours

Our customers need support 24/7 to meet their needs, so youll take your turn with your team working on a rota which could include working days, evenings, weekends, bank holidays and waking nights. You may also be required to do sleep ins or be on call in which an enhancement will be paid.  As were asking you to be flexible for our customer, well also give you the time back that you need to spend time doing the things that matter to you! Deb will help you develop the rotas that provide the support needed in the most flexible way.

About you

Youll have an excellent working knowledge and experience in CQC Regulated services and have an awareness of the national Transforming Care agenda. Its important to us that you have worked in a Senior Support Worker role before, with experience of supporting people who may show distressing behaviours. Holding a Level 3 Diploma in Adult Health & Social Care or equivalent, youll have a great understanding and passion for promoting independence and social inclusion through person centred support. Youll provide personal care in a strengths-based way to facilitate greater independence, as well as use creative solutions, and assistive technology where available to support independence. To be brilliant you will have previous experience in supporting people using positive behavioural support and your genuine passion and love for your job will really shine through!

To be awesome in this job, your key strengths will lie in people management and motivation, bringing colleagues together to share information, best practice, fostering creativity and overall ensuring our customer has a brilliant team!  You wont be left to it! Deb and our clinical team will be regular visitors to provide you with all the support you need!

When you join, youll need to have a valid Enhanced Check under the Disclosure and Barring Service. The great news is that we will pay for that to be done if you dont have a transferrable one.

How well support you

Dont worry, we wont drop you in the deep end, well nurture your talent, help you understand how things work here and youll have a fantastic induction with ongoing learning and support! Youll be trained to support our customers mental and physical wellbeing and to take positive risks to enable his successful journey to having his own home and being part of his community. If required (and only as a last resort), you may need to use physical intervention and we will provide you with training and support to do this safely.

We want you to get the right balance and to be and feel always at your best to continue to deliver brilliant outcomes for our customer.  So your wellbeing and taking time back when you need it too is our top priority!
