Job Description

Salary: £30,372 - £38,309

Closing date: 12th July 2020

Interviewing date: 3rd August 2020

The data infrastructure team sits with the Data, Foresight and Analysis directorate and provide the required data and analytical infrastructure to support the OfS/DFA operations, ensuring legal compliance such as GDPR, and OfS standards are met. The team also leads on standardisation and introduction of new technologies within the directorate. The team works closely with governance, IT and the wider directorate to achieve these aims. This role is one of three that sits within a small, flexible pool of analysts to support this work, with the work distributed amongst the pool based on individual skillsets, organisational need and a wish to maintain a broad skills set within these individuals.

On a day to day basis, the post holder will gain experience from being involved in a number of activities, from data loading and transformation, Tableau and SAS administration, problem solving technological issues with colleagues, to technology innovation (we are currently looking at the use of cloud based analytical platforms for example).

We are looking for an outcome focussed individual with some experience in an analytical, IT or equivalent role. They must demonstrate the ability to rapidly gain an understanding of a technical problem and communicate the problem, and the solution, to a wide range of people. A successful applicant would be able to demonstrate a knowledge of the data analysis process, and an understanding of technology. This is a development role, so we are looking for someone who can demonstrate an ability to grow into the role and the desired mind-set, not just individuals who can demonstrate experience in all areas. The successful applicants will be joining a friendly and supportive team, where they will benefit from comprehensive professional development, incorporating internal and external training as appropriate.

This role is dual banded 7/8. Pay band 7 is a developmental role, staff will typically be recruited based on their likely aptitude to be able to develop the competencies. Pay band 8 staff will fully deliver the outcomes described

The OfS embraces and promotes equality, diversity and inclusion. We strive to reflect this in our workforce so that we represent the diversity of those whose interests we promote. We recruit by merit on the basis of fair and open competition.

We welcome flexible working, and as an organisation which exists to support education and lifelong learning, we are firmly committed to providing learning and development opportunities for all employees.

If you have any particular requirements in relation to the selection process, please let us know immediately so that we can discuss any reasonable adjustments you may need. We are requesting this information to make the process as equitable as possible for each candidate.

Candidates who demonstrate that they meet our minimum requirements will be invited to complete an online assessment.
