Job Description

Circa £85,000 per annum, plus attractive benefits

The Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman (PHSO) makes final decisions on complaints that have not been resolved by the NHS in England, UK government departments and some UK public organisations.  This is done independently and impartially.  We use our casework to help improve public services, and have ambitious plans for our future, including publishing the majority of our casework online, and developing a complaints standards framework for the public sector.

A compelling opportunity has arisen to join PHSO as our new Director of Resources and play a vital part in the strategic leadership of a rapidly changing organisation. Reporting to our Chief Operating Officer and working as a member of our Executive Team, our new Director will provide strategic leadership to PHSO’s financial, technology, and information assurance functions. Delivering a robust service across the breadth of their portfolio, the Director will drive and support the delivery of PHSO’s strategic objectives. They will ensure that PHSO receives the advice and support it needs, and that our resources are used to best value, driving business and organisational change, and performance and continuous improvement.

You are a CCAB qualified accountant with substantial post qualifying experience, but you are more than that, too. You have strategic nous and exceptional leadership skills and experience. You have led and implemented change and modernisation that have realised demonstrable benefits; advised at the most senior levels of a complex organisation; and can point to positive outcomes achieved by virtue of your sophisticated influencing and negotiating skills. You bring strong knowledge of financial management within a public sector context, have ideally led a multi-disciplinary team, and are resilient, with proven experience working under pressure.

We are interested in excellence wherever it occurs, and welcome application from candidates from diverse backgrounds and communities.
