Job Description

The Commercial Bioinformatics team focuses on support and consultancy for Illumina sequencing platform customers. As a Bioinformatics Support Scientist, you will play a pivotal role in providing support services for bioinformatics and data-analysis solutions within the Service and Support division of Illuminas EMEA commercial team.


Your customers are at the forefront of genetics and NGS (Next Generation Sequencing), helping to deliver advancements in life sciences, oncology, reproductive health, agriculture and other emerging markets. You will develop, communicate and effectively execute the highest level of commercial support, leading complex client consultation, training and implementation of Informatics solutions at customer sites. You will provide second level support for Illuminas informatics products, liaising with customers, colleagues and development teams. This office-based role also includes providing training for in-house support scientists and Field Applications Scientists on Illumina's sequence data-analysis applications, tools and system.

Job Duties include, but are not limited to:


Liaising with current and prospective commercial customers of Illuminas portfolio of sequencing platforms as a Bioinformatics subject matter expert in support of their data processing, analysis and interpretation needs.
Acting as a technical specialist with advanced knowledge of Illumina Informatics solutions - including scoping opportunities for product adoption, optimization and configuration of systems tailored to specific user demands, and ongoing support for key projects.
Working closely with customers and colleagues to ensure customer success and satisfaction, while identifying & reporting solutions to challenges encountered.
Playing a key role in promoting the use of Illumina software and data-solutions and interacting with Sales, Marketing and development teams to feedback user experience
Providing Bioinformatics subject matter expertise to in-house support teams. Including second level support in defining and troubleshooting customer problems, and working closely with field support and software development teams to drive resolution.
Playing an integral role in the development of key group processes that support our mission of building and maintaining our world-class support organization.
Contributing to development and delivery of training to customers and internal teams in conjunction with the Commercial Training group
Availability for Field travel required (up to 30%)


Preferred Educational Background:


PhD or MSc in Molecular Biology, Genetics, Bioinformatics, Computer Science or a related degree


Preferred Experiential Background:
Extensive commercial biotech/biomedical science industry experience preferred
Extensive experience with high-throughput NGS and other genomic data analysis; in-depth understanding of Genomics, plus NGS analysis tools and algorithms and their implementation on high-performance, scientific computer hardware systems
Significant experience with current sequence-alignment, variant-calling and interpretation tools and concepts.
Worked with data management tools & computer platforms
Linux command line familiarity, with experience in a scripting language such as Python.
Experience in commercial product development and product launch, preferably of data analysis products and solutions.
Highly self-motivated, independent worker with strong analytical and problem-solving ability, excellent presentation, verbal, written & communications skills
Production bioinformatics or customer support experience preferred
Project management experience an advantage
Strong ability to work cross-functionally within a global organization and matrix reporting structure
Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills
Clear vision of, and commitment to, providing outstanding customer service
