Wythall, South Birmingham (B47)

6 Months Fixed Term Contract

Do you seek greater exposure to asset / fund management?

Would you benefit from continued career development and new challenges?

Would you like to develop new initiatives to maximise the financial and operational benefits to our business?

Do you thrive on undertaking a wide variety of work in a rapidly changing environment?

Yes?

A rare opportunity in the Authorised Fund Management (Phoenix Unit Trust Managers (PUTM)) team within our Investment Office is now available that will provide development opportunities to enhance your stakeholder management skills and also your understanding of how a fund management business (PUTM) operates within Phoenix Group.  With recent acquisition activity within Phoenix Group and a busy agenda ahead of us, it's an exciting time to be at the heart of the PUTM team as we continue to drive our business forward.  Come and see how your skills and expertise could help us on our journey!

The Role:

Reporting to our Head of Authorised Fund Management, you'll be playing a key role within the fund management team in a large life insurance company.  On a day-to-day basis, you'll provide effective oversight of our unit trusts operations by liaising with all internal and external stakeholders.  You may find yourself:

Integrating assets of acquired businesses into PUTM

Performing oversight of fund activities done by the outsourced suppliers for the Unit Trusts (Fund Accounting, Transfer Agency, Tax, Investment Management, Trustees and Auditors)

Producing and reviewing relevant fund documentation

Launching new funds and/or merging/closing funds

Ensuring regulatory compliance with relevant FCA sourcebooks

Producing PUTM MI for various committees and the PUTM Board

As you can see, it's a varied role with plenty of opportunities to challenge yourself!

What we're looking for:

With an inquisitive mind, along with a genuine interest in how fund management companies operate, and sound knowledge of governance processes within the Financial Services sector, you'll have excellent planning and organisation skills and be comfortable with seeing tasks through to completion. You'll need to be a strong communicator, as you'll have exposure to a wide range of stakeholders to a senior level.

You'll be confident when engaging with others to ensure risk and governance issues are high on the agenda, and not be afraid to speak out or provide challenge if you feel there are any ambiguities or shortfalls in the information which is being created within the organisation.  You'll enjoy examining and reviewing MI from a wide range of sources to identify and resolve issues and errors and construct a wider picture of what's really happening across the organisation.

Although this role sits within our fund management team, individuals with relevant experience within Investment Accounting, Fund Accounting, Unit Linked, Risk and Governance, Financial Reporting or Investment Management teams are also encouraged to apply. It’s the kind of role where you can use your unique perspective to help shape the way in which we do things at PUTM, and ensure we're meeting the high standards of governance and risk management expected within a regulated environment.

About us

Phoenix Group is the largest specialist consolidator of heritage life assurance funds in Europe. Our main focus is on closed life fund consolidation where we specialise in the acquisition and management of closed life insurance and pension funds. We call this our Heritage business. Alongside this, we have an open business which manufactures and underwrites new products and policies to support people saving for their future in areas such as workplace pensions and SIPPs. This open business is underpinned by a strategic partnership with Standard Life Aberdeen plc following our acquisition of Standard Life Assurance Limited in 2018.

We also have a market leading brand - SunLife - which sells a range of financial products specifically for the over 50s market. In total the Group has over 10 million policyholders and £240 billion of assets and we have operations in the United Kingdom, Ireland and Germany. The Group has five operating life companies which hold policyholder assets and a distribution business, SunLife.

We believe the insurance industry is bifurcating and splitting into 'capital heavy' insurance specialists who will continue to underwrite and administer insurance products and 'capital light' firms who will concentrate on sales and distribution.  Phoenix's vision is to be Europe’s Leading Life Consolidator in this bifurcating market which we estimate has a market size of £540 billion across the UK, Germany and Ireland.
