Job Description

Illuminas mission is to improve human health by unlocking the power of the genome. As the established global leader in DNA sequencing our people and our technology change lives by driving advancements in clinical genomics. Clinical Genomics serves as one of Illuminas largest, most important and fastest growing markets. A key pillar of our Clinical Genomics product portfolio is development of testing solutions to meet the requirements for oncology testing. In 2018, 17 million individuals were newly diagnosed with cancer while 9.8 million died of the disease. The application of next-generation sequencing (NGS) in the diagnosis and treatment of cancer patients is beginning to revolutionize clinical practice, however we are only at the beginning.


As a key member of the Market Development team, this individual will be responsible to develop, implement and actively manage the market development strategies that help establish the use of NGS as the standard of care for front-line tumor profiling and monitoring in cancer. Successful candidates will combine strong understanding of genomics with strategic analysis, business acumen and leadership skills. An understanding of how new tests and technologies get implemented into the practice of medicine is also important. In this position the candidate would have the opportunity to collaborate across multi-disciplinary teams and cultivate key partnerships with institutions, KOLs, funding bodies and others, enabling customers to access our technology.


Key Deliverables


Evidence development. Partner with thought leaders to design and manage collaboration opportunities that support market development goals. Publication of impactful clinical and economic evidence will form the cornerstone of efforts to impact professional society guidelines, increase awareness among medical professionals, and achieve supportive reimbursement policies.
Perform detailed market analysis to help develop marketing strategies and drive execution of strategy with clear milestones and action plans
Build and manage close relationships with KOLs. Conceive and execute strategies to influence key stakeholders such as clinical thought leaders, and industry and non-profit bodies.
Leverage and communicate market information internally to best inform Illuminas product development, regulatory and market entry strategies. Stay current and report on competitor activities and market dynamics.


Tasks And Responsibilities


Work with product management, product marketing, regional teams and senior management to develop and implement market development strategies for oncology markets in the Americas, or other markets as assigned.
Demonstrate an ability to organize projects and see them through to completion. Enhance scientific understanding and align company initiatives with Illuminas strategic position to promote Illuminas mission.
Conceive and execute strategy to influence key stakeholders such as industry bodies, non-profit organizations and thought leaders.
Conduct expert panel programs to foster two-way flow of information and understand voice of end-customer
Create and present market analysis to key internal stakeholders. Including but not limited to market sizing, key drivers, competition, and entry strategies.
Synthesise customer experiences and desires into new product concepts in partnership with Product Marketing

Preferred Educational Background
Background in life sciences or related science field
MBA, MS, MD or Ph.D. is a plus

Preferred Experience & Skills
10+ years experience with genomics technologies or life sciences products / applications understanding of US healthcare system strongly preferred
Strong initiative, problem-solving ability and sense of ownership when driving projects to completion. Outstanding attention to detail, excellent organizational skills
Previous business strategy, business development, or strategic marketing experience related to life sciences
Experience in strategic consulting is preferred.
Proven experience in a strategic role working collaboratively and independently to drive results
Ability to influence across the organization at all levels, including previous experience in a highly matrixed organization would be preferred.
Exceptional communications skills,including fluency with Powerpoint and modeling with a proven ability to influence at all levels across an organisation. Ability to work with a large number of individuals on a one-on-one basis
Willingness to travel up to 50%
