Job Description

The University of East London (UEL) is the university which prepares our students for the jobs of the future. We have started to implement a new 10-year strategy, Vision 2028, to transform our curriculum, pedagogy, research impact and partnerships to make a positive difference to student, graduate and community success. Our ambitious vision is to become the leading careers-intensive university in the UK, committed to realising and developing talent and potential in all those who become part of UELs community. With over 15,000 students from over 150 countries, we are one of the most diverse, vibrant and socially inclusive universities in the UK, our strategy builds on our long-standing commitment to inclusion and social mobility.

UEL is now looking to make several appointments to its Board of Governors.  The role of Governor provides an important opportunity to contribute to the shape and development of the University at an exciting time for UEL and higher education more generally. The Board of Governors will play an essential role in the delivery of Vision 2028, and be fundamental in supporting our staff, challenging, of course, where necessary, and providing corporate governance that is effective and constructive.

We are keen to hear from candidates who offer strategic level experience in one or more of the following desirable areas: higher education, finance, HR, audit and legal. Expressions of interest are welcome from those with strategic vision and the ability to operate within a challenging and unpredictable sector. We are looking for seasoned leaders who bring senior experience running large, complex organisations with multi-stakeholder engagement. A strong personal commitment to higher education and the values, aims and objectives of the University is essential. Previous non-executive experience is essential, and an analytical and constructively challenging approach is required.  Knowledge of the East London and the diverse community in and around the University would be an advantage.

Saxton Bampfylde Ltd is acting as an employment agency advisor to UEL on this appointment.  For further information about the role, including details about how to apply, please visit www.saxbam.com/appointments using reference KAEMC.  Alternatively telephone +44 (0)20 7227 0880 (during office hours).

Applications should be received by noon on 17th April 2020.
