Job Description

Commercial Deputy Director Procurement & Contract Management

Birmingham with frequent travel to London

We are changing the way the Civil Service works and are at the forefront of Government's transformation agenda; reshaping the relationship civil servants have with their place of work.  With a responsibility for delivering the Government’s Estates Strategy we manage the Government’s property assets including delivering major programmes to construct and refurbish buildings and drive more flexible smarter working practices to improve productivity and well-being.  Our mission is simple - to work with Departments to create great places to work for civil servants, in turn enabling them to deliver excellent public services.

Our Commercial team is responsible for defining, procuring and managing commercial solutions in support of every part of our organisation to deliver the defined requirement and enhance client satisfaction.  Reporting to the Commercial Director, you will take ownership and responsibility for all our contractual agreements through the end to end commercial lifecycle.  Leading a small team and creating strong working partnerships with Crown Commercial Services and Cabinet Office you will deliver the collation of requirements, creation and implementation of category strategies, timely and compliant procurements and forward-thinking contract management.

You will bring a clear depth of knowledge and experience in the property and facilities management category with experience of public sector procurement.  The ability to operate strategically and deliver the end to end commercial cycle across all categories in this leadership role is required, and your experience of leading transformational change will be key.  This is a leadership challenge within a highly complex operation, and so the ability to adapt and navigate this landscape effectively will be critical to success in this role.

If you have strong commercial acumen, great knowledge of property, and a desire to make a difference, we want to hear from you. We not only need great individuals but to build a great team of different backgrounds, perspectives and ways of thinking. Diverse teams are good for business, and we intend GPA to be a business of which we can be proud, and which delivers for both Government and our people. These are exciting times for the organisation, and this opportunity provides a great chance to make a positive impact and contribution.  Please contact Michael Dobson on 07891 142325, Julie Myers on 07595 779915 or Paddy O’Hara on 0113 205 6098 at our recruitment partners GatenbySanderson for an informal discussion.
