Job Description

APPOINTMENT OF INDEPENDENT MEMBER TO BETSI CADWALADR UNIVERSITY LOCAL HEALTH BOARD

We have an exciting opportunity to help shape the future of health care in NHS Wales through undertaking the role of an Independent Member so why not show that you have the ability to make a real difference in health service provision to the people of Wales.

We are recruiting to Betsi Cadwaladr University Local Health Board, the largest health organisation in Wales serving Anglesey, Gwynedd, Conwy, Denbighshire, Flintshire and Wrexham.  Details of the role are set out below. If you are a dynamic individual and have a genuine desire to play a full and active role in the governance of the Health Board and to make a real difference to the lives of the people of North Wales, we would like to hear from you.

The Board is made up of a number of Executive and Independent Members.  Each Independent Member role has a specific remit. For this vacancy we are looking to recruit an Independent Member with a Community remit. Primarily, you will have a clear knowledge and understanding of your area of expertise and the ability to apply this knowledge and understanding in a strategic board environment. You will also play a full and active role in the corporate and clinical governance of the health board, work closely with other public, private and voluntary organisations and contribute to the “governance and finance” of the Health Board ensuring its openness and honesty by contributing fully to the board’s decision making processes.

The appointment will be made on merit although consideration will be given to the need to establish a balanced skills mix and the diversity of the Board.

The Independent Member will be appointed for up to a four (4) year period. The posts of Independent Members are based on a notional time commitment of a minimum of four (4) days per month subject to organisational demands, but is often higher than the minimum requirement. The Independent Member – Community role will be paid at £15,936 per annum, paid monthly or quarterly in arrears as agreed with the Health Board.

We are particularly interested to hear from under-represented groups such as women, disabled people and individuals from ethnic minority communities and the skills you have to make a contribution in these areas.
