Job Description

This is a critical moment to be joining the Northern Ireland Office, whose work is at the centre of the Government’s desire to see Northern Ireland as a thriving and successful part of the United Kingdom. Our work is vital and varied: we are working to restore devolved institutions; represent Northern Ireland’s interests in the preparations for leaving the EU; ensure safety and security across Northern Ireland in response to a continuing dissident threat; deliver a growing economy; and ensure a stronger society by overcoming the division and legacy of the past.

As Director of Communications you will have a unique and crucial role in supporting the delivery of the UK Government’s priorities for Northern Ireland. Working with Ministers, the Northern Ireland Executive (when in formation) and other government departments, you will lead the NIO’s dedicated communications team to develop and deliver a successful, integrated and impactful communications strategy.

Politically astute, you will be a skilled communicator and leader who can successfully deliver strategic communications in a complex and challenging environment. Bringing exceptional interpersonal and management skills, you will able to operate, influence and work collaboratively with key stakeholders at the highest level and provide leadership across a geographically dispersed team.
