You’ll keep London moving

At Transport for London, we play an integral part in millions of people’s lives. Whether our customers are using our services for work or leisure, we are committed to getting them to their destinations safely and efficiently. Our London Underground Train Maintenance team are central to this goal. Working collaboratively to ensure every train is meeting meticulous standards, they deliver exceptional planned and responsive maintenance services to keep more than 500 trains moving across 11 lines and 402km of tracks – every hour. Join them, and you could be at the heart of their important mission.

You’ll learn skills that will elevate your future potential

Receiving on-the-job training from our highly skilled Fleet Trainers, you’ll develop a comprehensive knowledge of how our train systems work. Becoming proficient in both mechanical and electrical skills, you’ll maintain and repair our rolling stock under the guidance of our supportive team. Every day will bring new experiences, as you’ll tackle everything from planned maintenance to casualty works. Whether you’re replacing oil and filters, changing traction motors, inspecting a train for damage or assessing the functionality of brakes, you will be on a huge learning curve – with the scope to become an expert in your field.

You’ll be supported every step of the way

With the opportunity to work in north, south, east or west London network, (we’ll try to accommodate you where possible), you’ll learn the types of skills that will set you up for a great career. So if you’ve got experience of, or an interest in engineering, and you love to learn, you’ll fit right in. We’re looking for the type of people who enjoy getting to grips with flat-pack furniture, love fixing things and solving problems. A basic knowledge of using handheld tools would be useful, the flexibility to work shifts is essential, and you’ll have great communication skills too. Essentially, you’ll also have a good awareness of health and safety in the workplace, and you’ll be ready to get stuck in.

Salary and benefits

You’ll get to experience genuine job satisfaction, and you can be sure of a consistently great work/life balance, as your shift pattern will be rostered a year in advance – so there won’t be any unexpected callouts. And while we are confident that you will enjoy the challenges that we can present you with, you’ll receive a host of great benefits too – things like free travel on all TfL services, access to our contributory pension scheme, generous annual leave, reduced-price Eurostar travel and National Rail season tickets, and a range of retail, health and leisure discounts.

Candidates who have previously applied for this role within the last six months should not submit an application on this occasion.
