London is the greatest city in the world, but for too many Londoners, crime is a part of their everyday reality. We are focused on tackling and reducing crime and making London a safer city for all.

The Criminal Justice Commissioning Directorate is recruiting a Programme Officer to join a thriving directorate which is responsible for the delivery of the Mayor of Londons Police and Crime Plan. Policy and Commissioning is delivered over two broad portfolios, victims and offenders. The overarching objective to reduce victimisation and offending in London, specific focus on repeat and complex behaviour and the severity of impact. Within this, the directorate has four specific areas of specialism; criminal justice, safeguarding and early intervention, victims and specialist intervention and violence against women and girls.

The directorate has responsibility for a commissioning budget of £68 million in this financial year, and currently has in place over 40 grant and contractual arrangements with statutory and voluntary sector organisations. The directorate works with a range of partners from local authorities, police and voluntary sector organisations to develop effective new strategies, policies and commissioning approaches, work to maintain funding for programmes/services that work and test innovative new ways of working to reduce crime. In the last 4 years we have increased our commissioning budget by over £25 million per annum, developed and implemented knife crime and Violence Against Women and Girls strategies, put in place innovative new services such as the pan London Integrated Victims and Witness Service, alongside bespoke programmes such as GPS tagging of knife crime offenders, pathfinder programme in a London prison to reduce violence and a new service called The Lighthouse in Camden which provides service to youth victims of sexual abuse.

The directorate will continue to deliver an exciting and effective programme of work, through informed partnerships and a strong evidence base, developing readiness for the Mayoral election in 2020.

The Programme Officer will be expected to support the development and commissioning of new projects and policy areas that support the Police and Crime Plan. Building constructive relationships across MOPAC and with criminal justice partners, voluntary sector agencies and providers to achieve the Mayor and MOPACs objectives.

A proven track record in project management and delivery is essential as is the ability to manage relationships between different stakeholders and partners. The postholder will be assigned to one of the four teams within the directorate but there will flexibility to work on a wide range of policies and programmes.
