Job Description

Phone-paid Services Authority (PSA) is the UK regulator for content, goods, and services charged to a phone bill.  Phone-paid services are the goods and services that you can buy by charging the cost to your phone bill or pre-pay account. They include directory enquiries, voting on TV talent shows, donating to charity by text or downloading apps on your mobile phone. They are referred to as premium rate services in law.

As a regulator our role is to make sure that consumers are fully protected when paying for content, goods and services through their phone bill. We also seek to further consumers interests through encouraging competition, innovation and growth in the market. We do this by working collaboratively with industry to uphold the standards we set through our outcomes-based Code of Practice and by eradicating scams and sharp practices in the market.

Board members are involved in formulating the strategies and policies for PSA, including the development and effectiveness of the Code of Practice. We are looking for a candidate with significant experience in a senior strategic thinking role with strong intellectual and analytical capabilities and ideally experience at Board level, although this is not essential. Our preference would be to select a candidate with business experience within fixed and mobile networks/premium rate or the wider micropayment market.  Experience with digital technologies, customer facing online sales and digital marketing would also be beneficial.

The estimated time commitment is up to two days a month. Successful applicants will be offered an initial term of up to three years with the possibility of this being extended for up to a further three years, subject to Ofcom approval.
