Education Scotland

As Scotland’s national improvement agency for education, Education Scotland is an organisation of people who believe passionately in the power of education to change lives. We aim to provide the right blend of support and challenge to help education providers achieve excellence and equity for Scottish learners. We work in a wide range of sectors from the early years, through school education to post-16 and adult learning.

The Agency is a constituent part of Scottish Government with a focus on direct delivery of public services. We are headed by a Chief Executive who is personally answerable to Scottish Ministers and the Scottish Parliament for the performance of the Agency. Our Board is therefore advisory, rather than executive, in nature.

Non-Executive Board Member role:

The Advisory Board plays a crucial role in the strategic governance of the Education Scotland. As part of that you will offer leadership, direction and guidance to the organisation, supporting the Agency to deliver on our corporate objectives and ensuring that it runs efficiently. Although you won’t be involved in the day-to-day running of the Agency, it is an opportunity to lend your voice and opinion to an area that is at the heart of the Programme for Government, whilst gaining knowledge and experience in how the organisation works. You will be an ambassador for Education Scotland, promoting its work amongst stakeholders.

For further information about the organisation, please visit our website www.education.gov.scot.

The appointment will be for a term of four years with the possibility of re-appointment, subject to a satisfactory performance assessment and meeting the continuing requirements of the Agency. All Non-Executive Board Members are appointed by and ultimately accountable to the Chief Executive.

An application pack and full details on this appointment is available on our website https://education.gov.scot/who-we-are/Current%20vacancies.
