About us
The Ministry of Defence (MOD) protects the security, independence and interests of our country at home and overseas. Our aim is to ensure that the armed forces have the training, equipment and support necessary for their work.
With a scale and complexity of operations that matches anything in Government, we employ the largest cohort of Project Delivery professionals in the Civil Service. Bringing together a wide range skills, experience and expertise, they contribute to the management of the fifth largest defence budget in the world.
The role
Your task will be to develop strategy and drive improvements in overall project delivery performance for the MOD. In this newly established leadership role, you will head up a team of over 30 project delivery specialists, setting direction and delivering a substantive change programme. You will also manage our Project Delivery Centre of Excellence.
The challenge is as much about people as processes, ensuring that that we build a sense of community within the project delivery profession, and support training, development and knowledge-sharing within the function. A key task will be to align the programme with other MOD and pan-government programmes and initiatives, which will involve engagement with a wide variety of stakeholders.
About you
Youll have significant experience of programme and project management in a complex, public sector environment. This should include working at board level on major business transformation and organisational change programmes. Excellent leadership skills are essential, including the ability to deliver change though people. Youll be an exceptional communicator with the ability to inspire and influence others, both inside and outside the organisation. Youre likely to have a professional project leadership qualification or accreditation, and a real passion for creating first-class project management outcomes.
