Job Description

Created in 2018, the Office for Students (OfS) is the new independent regulator for higher education (HE) in England with responsibility for ensuring that HE is delivering positive outcomes for past, present and future students and that all students, whatever their background, have a fulfilling HE experience that enriches their lives and careers.

This is an exciting time for the organisation as the new regulatory environment comes into force. To work with us, you don`t need to be an expert in HE, but you will have a passion for the OfS`s mission and for making a difference for all students.

We`re currently building a flexible and dynamic team within the Teaching Excellence and Student Experience (TESE) directorate which will support the delivery of core processes, workstreams and projects across a diverse portfolio.

The directorate is responsible for:

-the development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of funding for universities and colleges;

-the Teaching Excellence and Student Outcomes Framework;

-student welfare and safeguarding; and

-the protection of student interests in the event of a provider or campus closure.

The purpose of the `Officer` role is to develop policies that deliver the OfS`s objectives within the regulatory and operational context. Key activities include: delivering projects and processes while applying project management methods to deliver work successfully and considering appropriate actions to improve processes; working with others and supporting them to meet objectives; maintaining an understanding of the team`s work; and supporting the preparation of documentation and sharing of knowledge internally and externally. The role requires engagement with internal and external stakeholders to understand relevant policies and ensure that information and guidance is shared appropriately to help develop these policies.

The key person attributes to fulfil this role: working effectively in a team while also managing discrete pieces of work and core processes, demonstrating an understanding of how this aligns with the aims of the team, Directorate and wider organisation. The postholder will be able to deploy effective project management methodologies and tools, will have well-developed analytical skills and the ability to understand, interpret and analyse qualitative and quantitative evidence and data from a range of sources to form appropriate judgements. They will manage their own workload within a team environment and cope with changing priorities in a flexible and proactive way. They will have effective communication skills and be confident in developing and managing relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

It`s important to us that our growing team is diverse so we encourage applications from people of all backgrounds and identities. We`re happy to receive applications for full time, part-time, job share or secondment opportunities.

As well as an exciting opportunity to be part of a new regulator, we provide our staff with a comprehensive staff development programme, 25 days` annual leave, and the opportunity to join the Civil Service Pension scheme.
