Job Description

North East, Yorkshire and Humber

£31,818 per annum + £1,421 per annum

Home-based in the North East, Yorkshire and Humber

Fixed term until 31 March 2021

We are Time to Change an ambitious, England-wide social movement which aims to end the stigma and discrimination faced by people with mental health problems. Time to Change is run by the charities Mind and Rethink Mental Illness, with funding from the Department of Health and Social Care, Comic Relief and the Big Lottery Fund.

We are looking for an organised people person who has personal experience of mental ill health and associated stigma and discrimination, and is now ready and able to use that to embed Time to Change as a sustainable campaign in the North East, Yorkshire & Humber.

You will take over and deepen existing relationships with local public, private and voluntary sector partners, including professionals with a stake in mental health through, for example, the Time to Change Leeds Hub and other similar initiatives. You will also train and support diverse people who have lived experience of mental ill health to establish their own peer-led Champion Campaign Groups and deliver local anti-stigma activities.

You will join seven peers already working in other regions of England, and eight other team-mates, including your manager, who are based at Minds HQ in London.

The role is based at home with most management and support delivered by email, phone and Skype and occasional face-to-face meetings. To structure your days, deal with setbacks and manage competing priorities, you will need to be motivated, able to work on your own initiative and adaptable to change. This is a fast-moving campaign, so you must have the resilience to cope with uncertainty and be ready to work with colleagues to deliver quick solutions as situations arise.

We are working to achieve a diverse and representative workforce at all levels. Men, and people from black and minority ethnic backgrounds are particularly encouraged to apply as they are currently under-represented in this team.

Applicants must live in the North East, Yorkshire & Humber and have good links there. To avoid excessive TOIL and costs, applicants must live within easy access of the most populated parts of the region. Access to a car is desirable as the role involves considerable weekly travel in the North East, Yorkshire and Humber and less frequently across England. We provide travel expenses.

The role is remotely managed and relies on relationship-building so is not open to job share.

Interview date: Wednesday 17 and Thursday 18 October 2018 in York.

Mind is committed to equality of opportunity for all staff, and applications from individuals are encouraged regardless of age, disability, sex, gender reassignment, sexual orientation, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief and marriage and civil partnerships.
