Job description
Working in our Maritime domain you will be part of a team of experts, in an agile, defence critical capability area, focusing on naval platform systems engineering, integration and protection.
You could be conducting research and providing advice to MOD on submarine and warship hydro acoustics and hydrodynamics; conducting investigations into Electronic Warfare capabilities and requirements for force defence; undertaking modelling and simulation for missile defence; investigating countermeasure solutions to protect UK warships against Radio Frequency and Electro Optic threats; developing and testing autonomous systems and providing advice to support the Royal Navy in-service platforms. Your work will impact defence thinking now and in the future.

Support research and investigations into Autonomous systems.
Be an enthusiastic problem solver who can utilise software and hardware tools to address big picture questions in a fast-evolving area of Defence.
Develop a sound grasp of advanced mathematics and application of this to underwater acoustics, noise and vibration modelling.

Qualifications
Essential
With strong English and Maths skills you will have a degree or equivalent relevant experience in an engineering, scientific, technology or mathematics discipline.

For more senior position a PhD would be an advantage.

Memberships
Membership of a professional body would be an advantage (e.g. Institute of Engineering Technology (IET), Institute of Physics (IoP), Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET), Institute of Mechanical Engineering (IMechE), British Computer Society (BCS) or other.) We can support your development towards professional memberships as appropriate.
Person specification
Were looking for individuals who can bring a mix of skills to our teams including combinations of;
Excellent communication skills to create effective professional relationships with international partners.
Ability to communicate complex technical concepts effectively to non-specialists, including project managers and international audiences.

Programming skills

Desirable

Sound appreciation of wider military, political and strategic issues relating to Det C4.
Maritime sector Industrial knowledge.
Demonstrated ability to develop and undertake hydrodynamic investigations.
Ability to use 3D CAD and possess visualisation skills.
Knowledge of RF theory and its application
Knowledge Field Programmable Gate Arrays
Digital Electronics engineering experience
Experience of programming in C++, Fortran, VBA, MATLAB, Simulink and other languages
Knowledge of Vulnerability / Lethality / Terminal Effects
Understanding of a variety of languages: 3ds Max, Solidworks or other CAD software, UML/SysML and the use of Enterprise Architect.
Have experience of developing concepts to become tangible hardware/software firmware demonstrators
Have a good knowledge of radar and electronic warfare countermeasure concepts
Have knowledge and experience of working with electronic systems; digital and analogue
Knowledge of calculations covering general arrangement, static stability, powering, resistance, dynamic stability and control.
Planning, designing, carrying out, developing and reporting medium size projects, sub-projects or trials;
A good understanding of the maritime military environment.
A broad understanding of submarines and their associated systems.
