Attractive remuneration package on offer

The Met Office is one of the worlds most trusted and recognisable weather and climate services, operating in the UK since 1854 and as a Trading Fund since 1996. We run a 24/7 operational capability that supports the UK Government and a range of public and private organisations, and we play a key role in driving innovation in meteorological science and technology across the world. We are a team of 1,800 operating through 50 sites in the UK and overseas, headquartered in Exeter, and we represent the UK government on many international and inter-governmental bodies.

We have invested £97m in a new high-performance computer which is having a significant impact in the quality, speed and depth of our forecasting services, and are undergoing an efficiency transformation programme which will further develop our capability to deliver services. The development of these services in-line with the evolving requirements of our customers is key to maintaining our reputation and prestige globally, and to expanding our customer base.

We now require a new Chief Executive to provide leadership through the ongoing transformation, who can operate credibly at the helm of a high-performing and intellectually rigorous team. You will be an established strategic leader who can shape and design innovative operations and services, with experience of managing a profit and loss centre or public-sector equivalent. You will be comfortable engaging with senior stakeholders to ministerial level, and will bring a track record of collaborating with external associations and experts to contribute to the development of industry-wide standards.
