As one of the top 100 universities in the world, The University of Sheffield benefits from a dynamic multicultural environment, where every student is valued and welcomed. Our Security Team is dedicated to ensuring a safe, secure and welcoming environment for students, staff and visitors. We are looking for 8 part-time Security Support Officers to join our team.

We build teams of people from different heritages and lifestylexs whose talent and contributions complement each other to greatest effect. We believe diversity in all its forms delivers greater impact through research, teaching and student experience. As an equal opportunities employer, we want our employees to reflect the rich diversity of our staff and student community. We therefore encourage applications from women, and people from LGBT+ and Black, Asian and Ethnic Minority communities, although all applications will be considered solely on merit.

Currently less than 20% of our operational security staff are female. Our operational staff are required to carry out same sex searches and to respond to incidents where female students may be placed in a vulnerable condition. Recruiting female security staff will enable the University to provide an effective, safe and legally compliant security service. The University therefore considers it has an occupational requirement for five female security staff and this is permitted under Schedule 9, part 1 of the Equality Act 2010.

Are you caring and understanding, with a real passion for helping others? You will be motivated by working in a diverse and ever-changing environment, and take pride in our international University community, which draws on more than 120 nations. This is a stimulating role that will draw upon the full range of your experience and skill base and will allow for regular interactions with students, University colleagues, visitors, the public and external partners.

As a member of the team you will act as an ambassador for the University of Sheffield, providing a highly visible presence and service around campus. You will be responsible for carrying out a range of tasks to ensure the safety of University students, staff, visitors and property.  Responding to incidents and emergencies in line with University Safety and Security Procedures, you will demonstrate careful judgement, excellent customer service and a high level of integrity.

You will consistently demonstrate the Universitys core values of openness and inclusiveness and help to drive continuous improvement in a challenging environment. Successful applicants will be service delivery orientated, personable, dedicated to working within a successful team, and able to contribute positively to the performance of the Service. Although you will have demonstrable experience of working in a customer facing role, we will provide you with a comprehensive induction and an on-the-job training programme.

This is shift-based work, so you will work either one 7am-7pm or 7pm-7am shift a week, or two 12-hour shifts 7am-7pm or 7pm-7am a week. With the flexibility that part-time work affords, this is a unique role with a focus on providing a friendly and supportive service to our staff and student body.

Formal qualifications are not necessary for this role, but you will have customer-facing experience and good literacy, IT and communication skills. You must have a driving license. Your collaborative approach to working as a team will prove invaluable. If you have experience of working in a higher education establishment, that would be an added bonus, but is not a strict requirement for applying for the role.

Appointments will be made through the University recruitment process and applicants will be considered solely on the merit of skills and experience relative to the role.

Were one of the best not-for-profit organisations to work for in the UK. The Universitys Total Reward Package includes a competitive salary, a generous Pension Scheme and annual leave entitlement, as well as access to a range of learning and development courses to support your personal and professional development.

We build teams of people from different heritages and lifestylexs whose talent and contributions complement each other to best effect. We believe diversity in all its forms delivers greater impact through research, teaching and student experience.
