Job Description

Based in Redhill, Surrey

Non-Executive Director Group Board £4,500 p.a. plus expenses

Non-Executive Co optee Group Audit Committee £4,000 p.a. plus expenses

Raven is a Housing Association with 6,500 homes working across East Surrey and Sussex.  We build homes for those that can’t meet their housing needs in the market and in doing so we help them change their lives.   Our work goes far beyond that of a traditional landlord and extends into support for individuals and their communities.  We are also a growing and increasingly complex social business with a turnover of £48m, and capital spend on building new homes of over £50m.

We now seek a non-executive Director to join our Board of 12 and support the next stage of our growth.  We are seeking to embark on a programme of digital transformation, moving beyond simply placing some of our key services on line, and striving to change the very character of the organisation.  The person we seek will be accomplished at operating at Board level at times of change as an executive and most likely a non-executive director.  In addition to the expectations of the attached person specification, this Board member will have change management knowledge and experience gained in a senior position in a customer service organisation.  They will have an enthusiasm for the benefits that becoming a digitally mature organisation can offer the business and its customers, and have a firm grasp of the challenges and complexity of the journey to get there.

As a guide Board members typically attend c 8 evening meetings a year and a further two away days.  The association also supports Board members in further training and development.

We are also seeking a non-executive co optee to our Audit Committee.  With oversight of our control and assurance framework, our audit committee is a pivotal part of our governance structure.  Candidates need not be from an accountancy or financial background but must be competent interpreting financial reports, have a broad knowledge of business regulation and ideally be familiar with the social housing regulated sector.

As a guide Audit Committee usually meets 4 times a year in the evening, and the co optee will be expected to attend the two Group Board away days.  The association also supports co opted  members in further training and development.

Please visit our website at https://www.ravenht.org.uk/ to learn more about our work.  If you are interested in applying please feel free to call Jonathan Higgs, Chief Executive on 01737 272404 for an informal conversation or send an application by Friday 20th July to Jennifer.smith@ravenht.org.uk comprising a CV and a short statement addressing why you are applying and the value you can add to Raven’s work.

Interviews will be held on Monday 6th August 2018.
