Job Description

MILL CHASE ACADEMY - BORDON, HAMPSHIRE

Our school is relatively small for a secondary, which allows us to know every young person as an individual.  It also means we enjoy working as a cohesive team for the benefit of the community we serve.  We enjoy a positive and respectful family ethos along with very high aspirations and expectations of one another, which allows us to be an excellent place to learn and to work.

In September 2019, it will be an exciting time as we relocate to a purpose built new-build academy in Bordon.  Currently under construction with an investment in excess of GBP 30M, it will include state of the art facilities for all departments.

Students are very welcoming to new staff and clearly proud to be part of MCA.  Students enjoy extremely positive working relationships with their teachers and the support staff.  Every classroom is calm and purposeful with students keen to engage with their learning.  This is very much a school where teachers can teach and students can learn without lessons being disrupted.

In our first inspection since becoming an academy, we were judged as good in all areas which has provided us with a strong foundation on which to build further success.

In October 2016, Ofsted inspectors reported that, "Pupils have consistently positive attitudes to their learning.  Parents, pupils and staff recognise good behaviour as a strength of the school.  Pupils are polite and respectful towards each other and their teachers as they move around the school."

Whilst behaviour in the school is excellent, the real challenge is to raise the aspirations of all students. By encouraging students to develop a greater appreciation of what they are learning, we can help them achieve beyond their perceived capability.

One of the most important roles I have is to is to ensure that the very best teachers remain at MCA whilst appointing high-quality, talented staff.

We have always been committed to ensuring that teachers have maximum time to focus on teaching and learning activities.  By reducing bureaucracy and unnecessary meetings, we allow teachers to focus on planning great lessons, teaching great lessons and assessing student progress efficiently to inform the next phase of planning.  This is recognised by teachers as a key benefit of working at MCA.

Presently the department has 3 computer suites and when we move to our new site the department will enjoy state of the art facilities

You will be central to the resourcing decision making process to ensure that the equipment we purchase for the new school allows your vision for the Computer Science and ICT curriculum to be fully realised.

This is a once in a life time opportunity for an ambitious practioner to play a key role in an important and growing subject area across the school.

There are rich and growing professional development opportunities, overseen by the Deputy Principal.  The school is committed to bespoke provision for every member of staff to develop their expertise as a practitioner and their career.  We make use of individual staff talents and expertise by inviting colleagues to deliver INSET and run training sessions to share and embed excellent practice.

Our staff care very much about the community and are ambitious for the school in terms of learning and enrichment opportunities for our students.

We would welcome applications from colleagues who are equally ambitious for our students and are prepared to make a significant difference to young people's aspirations and achievements during their education at Mill Chase.  You can apply for this vacancy by downloading the University of Chichester Academy Trust application form (www.unicat.org.uk/find-job) and supporting documents and sending by email to Mr Richard Edwards, Business Manager, r.edwards@millchase.hants.sch.uk.  Visits to the school are encouraged and to arrange a visit please contact Corinne Tutton c.tutton@millchase.hants.sch.uk or 01420 472132

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
