Job Description
Reference number: VAC14734
Office location: 43-44 Crutched Friars, London EC3N 2AE
Interview date: Wednesday 21st February
Dementia devastates lives. By 2021, 1 million people will be living with the condition. But dementia won't win. Until the day we find a cure, Alzheimer's Society will be here for anyone affected by dementia - wherever they are, whatever they're going through. Everything we do is informed and inspired by them.
We are the UK's leading dementia charity. Every day, we work tirelessly to find new treatments and, ultimately, a cure for dementia. We provide expert information, training, and support services to all those who need our help. And we are creating a more dementia-friendly society so people with the condition can live without fear and prejudice.
About the role
The Society's National Dementia Helpline offers information, advice and emotional support to people affected by dementia. Our service responds to around 40,000 telephone, email and online enquiries every year and demand is growing.
The service currently operates from 9:00am to 8:00pm, Monday to Wednesday, 9:00am to 5:00pm Thursday and Friday and 10:00am to 4:00pm Saturday and Sunday.
About you
As Helpline Coordinator you will be doing regular helpline shifts, providing information, advice and emotional support to people who contact us for help. Additionally, you will support the effective and efficient day-to-day operation of the Helpline service and act as a 'senior helpline practitioner' within the team. You will also be responsible for supervising Helpline Volunteers.
You will need to have direct experience and knowledge of working on a helpline. Ideally, you will also have some experience of working in a coordination or management role and experience of supporting volunteers. You will also have knowledge and understanding of the information technology needs and requirements of helpline systems and experience of collating statistics.
Applicants must possess a degree and excellent written and spoken English skills. You will be self-motivated, able to work well under pressure and a good team player. Above all, you must have a real commitment to providing a high quality information and support service to people affected by dementia.
You will be joining a dedicated Helpline team and organisation that is growing to meet the needs of increasing numbers of people who are affected by dementia.
