Job Description

Board of The Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) Unremunerated (Reasonable expenses will be paid) Location: Wigston, Leicestershire IOSH is the worlds largest membership organisation for safety and health professionals, and the only one with Chartered status, with over 47,000 members around the world. IOSH, and its members, have a significant and positive impact on the health, safety and wellbeing of working people, providing a powerful voice for change and improvement. We are going through a period of great change and launched our ambitious five-year strategy, WORK 2022, in April 2017, providing greater focus for IOSH which has seen significant growth in both our membership numbers and the success of our commercial activities. We also have a new Senior Leadership Team in place, so this is a very exciting time to join the Board of Trustees. Achieving WORK 2022 requires transformational change in our organisation and it will be important for our Trustees to understand the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship; be able to personally deliver against agreed actions and have the capability to contribute constructively and regularly at meetings, whilst maintaining total integrity whilst in post. To help us in this regard we are seeking Trustees to join the Board who can demonstrate strategic vision, sound commercial and financial acumen, excellent communication skills and an interest in improving occupational safety and health on a global level. We seek a mix of Chartered Members of IOSH, and commercial individuals with expertise in either corporate or employment law, digital transformation, international business or professional membership. Overall, we are keen to encourage people from a wide range of backgrounds to have a diverse and inclusive Board. The term of office for a Trustee is three years and can be eligible for a second three-year term. There are six key meetings per year which are held in Wigston and usually take place on a Wednesday and run from morning to mid-afternoon. The time commitment is 15-20 days a year (2 days per month), inclusive of board meetings, development days, attendance at other meetings and other contact such as email, telephone and video conferencing, reading and preparation. There is also a requirement to be involved in a sub-committee or working group.
