Job Description

Putting patients first Chair and Board members of the NMC Appointments Board About us The Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) is the independent professional regulator for just under 690,000 nurses and midwives in the UK. We exist to protect the public by regulating nurses and midwives in the UK. We maintain a register of nurses and midwives who meet our standards, and we have clear and transparent processes to investigate nurses and midwives who fall short of our standards. The roles We are seeking: ‚§ two members to join the Appointments Board from March 2018; and ‚§ a new Chair of the Board to take up office in August 2018. The Appointments Board is vital to the smooth running of our fitness to practise function. The Boards remit is to oversee the appointment and reappointment of fitness to practise panel members and legal assessors. It also plays a crucial role in scrutinising and approving the policies and contractual arrangements that support panel members and legal assessors. About you Successful candidates will be able to demonstrate a strong commitment to, and understanding of, the healthcare sector. You will bring excellent communication, influencing and analytical skills, along with a proven track record of senior level skills in human resources and preferably with Board level executive or non-executive experience. Applicants for the Chair position must also have experience of chairing a committee at a senior level and be able to demonstrate skills in effective leadership. To reflect the Boards impartial role, we cannot accept applications from registered nurses and midwives. The Chair and Board members will be expected to commit approximately 8 to 10 days a year to these roles. Remuneration is £286 per day and reasonable expenses.
