Job Description

The Royal College of Art is the UKs only entirely postgraduate university institution devoted to research, knowledge exchange, teaching and practice across the arts. Its international reputation has been recognised year on year by the QS World Ranking Survey, being named the worlds number one art and design University for 2015, 2016 and 2017 respectively. The College also gained a 100% score for research impact in REF2014, alongside an unprecedented £54 million grant from the Chancellor of the Exchequer in 2016 to support a major expansion at Battersea to create a flagship innovation campus. 2017 marks the 180th anniversary of its foundation as the Government School of Design and the 50th anniversary of its Royal Charter. Fifty years on the College remains the vanguard of creative enquiry, with around 2000 students from 65 countries registered for MA, MRes, MPhil and PhD degrees. The College is seeking exceptional candidates to join its governing Council. The Council currently blends together expertise across research, practice, curation, business and law. Council members play a strong ambassadorial role, acting as advocates for the College. Strategic input and steering is also crucial to the Councils role, alongside ensuring that robust controls are in place to support the successful implementation of the strategic plan. Candidates will ideally bring experience of working across either finance, capital projects, philanthropy or international contexts. Appointments will be made for a three year term, with the possibility of re-appointment. Saxton Bampfylde is acting as an employment agency advisor to The Royal College of Art on this appointment. A candidate brief with full application details can be obtained from their website at www.saxbam.com/appointments using reference code KAJDB. Alternatively, email Belinda Beck at belinda.beck@saxbam.com or telephone +44 (0)20 7227 0880 (during office hours). Applications should arrive not later than noon on Friday 22 December 2017.
