We want to see a prosperous UK where everyone can play their part. This is an important senior role with responsibility for leading JRF and JRHTs media team to position the organisation as an influential voice in the public debate on how social and economic policy and practice impact on people on low incomes. You will be running our news grid and designing and implementing high profile and strategic media plans e.g. for JRFs annual set pieces like data monitoring reports. An important part of the job is the ability to identify risk and protect JRF and JRHTs reputation in the media so experience in crisis comms management is desirable. We are looking for someone who ideally has strong contacts in the national media and/or is confident building relationships and dealing with high profile national print media and broadcast journalists. We want someone who is proactive with the ability and insight to insert JRF evidence in a timely and strategic way when opportunities arise in the media and political debate. You need to be able to understand and get under the skin of research, translate it into enticing copy and sell it to high-profile media outlets. Above all, we are after a news and social media junkie who is passionate about keeping poverty and social issues in the UK in the media spotlight. The role is in the Communications and External Affairs Directorate, and is part of the Engagement team, which includes the functions of media, stakeholder relations, and digital marketing and communications. The role reports to the Head of Engagement and line manages a Senior Media Officer. The role could be based in York at JRFs headquarters or JRFs London office, with very frequent travel to the other location and occasional travel throughout the UK.
