News Planning and Media Manager

Communicating and influencing effectively in the external environment is integral to the success of both organisations in bringing about positive change for everyone affected by poverty and social problems in the UK. The media is a critical element in our communications and influencing strategy. This is an important role with responsibility for planning and delivering strategic and effective media relations, as part of wider influencing strategies across our public affairs activity and engagement. We are looking for someone who is confident dealing with the national media and able to make timely and strategic interventions to get our messages and evidence into public debate. You need to be able to understand and get under the skin of research, translate it into enticing copy and sell it in to high-profile media outlets. A strong contact list in the national media is desirable and you must be able to build networks quickly. But above all, we are after a news and social media junkie who is passionate about keeping poverty and social issues in the UK in the media spotlight. The role is in the Communications and External Affairs Directorate, and is part of the Engagement team, which includes the functions of media, stakeholder relations, and digital marketing and communications. The role reports to the Head of Engagement and line manages a Senior Media Officer. It is based at JRF�s headquarters in York, with frequent travel to London and occasional travel throughout the UK.
