Full time: 35 hours per week
Salary: 29,042 (including London weighting) rising to 29,717 from January 2015

Building relationships with opinion formers and journalists as part of broader strategies to bring about positive lasting social change is an important part of JRF and JRHTs work. The postholder will play a crucial role in providing high quality media relations expertise, building relationships and connections, and knowing when to lead public debate as well as identifying opportunities to insert JRF/JRHT evidence and expertise into the public debate.
The successful candidate will be expected to work as part of the media team to ensure the smooth day-to-day running of the JRF/ JRHT media office, providing a high quality responsive service to journalists in line with organisational objectives; provide strategic media relations input into influencing strategies to support organisational and programme objectives including advising on media risk and mitigation; build relationships with journalists and opinion formers across the political spectrum and identify media opportunities to use JRF/ JRHT evidence and experts to influence public policy and practice debate. They will need to be a self-starter and highly collaborative, as the post is based in London with frequent travel to the JRFs headquarters in York and occasional travel throughout the UK.
The role is part of the Communications and External Affairs Directorate, and is located within the Engagement Team which includes the functions of media, stakeholder relations, and digital marketing and communications. The Media Relations Team comprises the News Planning and Media Manager, and two Senior Media Officers.
