The Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) is looking to appoint 3 members to the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI). One with expertise in pharmacoeconomics / health economics; one with expertise in nursing; and one with expertise in midwifery / obstetrics.
JCVI is an expert scientific advisory committee at the heart of informing policy making on new vaccines and changes to existing vaccine programmes. Since the COVID-19 pandemic, the public’s interest in the work of JCVI has increased significantly. The committee provides advice and recommendations for all UK health departments based on consideration of scientific and other evidence and is used by the government to inform policy making.
Members play a critical role in ensuring the Committee’s continued standing as an internationally recognised leading body in the fields of immunisation and vaccinations. You will be expected to make a full and considered contribution to the work of the Committee and to contribute fully to the debate and the decision-making process.
Candidates should be experts in absorbing and analysing complex information and scientific and medical data and developing evidence-based, workable solutions to complex issues. They should have excellent communication skills, and the ability to engage and provide effective challenge in face-to-face as well as virtual discussions and conferences.
You must have experience working at a senior level, including experience of making significant personal contributions to organisations’ achievements or to a particular field of study.
In particular we are looking for candidates who are recognised by their peers as an expert in one of the following specialisms:
• Pharmacoeconomics / Health Economics;
• Nursing;
• Midwifery / Obstetrics.
Both the nursing expert and the midwifery / obstetrics expert must have specialist knowledge and / or experience in vaccination and / or immunisation.

The roles are not remunerated and have a time commitment of approximately 6 to 8 days per year. The senior responsible officer determines the length of appointments, which may be a maximum of 3 years per term, with a potential maximum of 3 terms.
