WELSH INDUSTRIAL DEVELOPMENT ADVISORY BOARD (WIDAB)
The current level of remuneration is £256 per day for the Chair for an average commitment of 1 day a month. Meetings could be held throughout Wales and may be held virtually but the majority will be held in Merthyr Tydfil. The term of the appointment will be 3 years.
Originally established under the Welsh Development Agency Act 1975, WIDAB advises Ministers and Senior Welsh Government officials on issues relating to the Welsh Economy and assists them in their ambition to drive sustainable and inclusive growth across the regions of Wales. Central to WIDAB’s role is providing advice to the Cabinet Secretary on individual projects over £1 million from the relevant schemes within the Economy Futures Fund.
We are recruiting a Chair with a breadth of experience who is willing to engage with a forward looking and modern economic platform for Wales. Sound communication skills are essential together with confidence in expressing views; you will need to contribute to discussions and enable the Board to arrive at a clear consensus recommendation to the Cabinet Secretary.
You will need to make a distinctive contribution, using your knowledge and experience and provide judgement on projects with respect to the criteria of additionality, viability, economic efficiency and employment. You will advise on whether projects can make a positive, long-term contribution to the competitiveness of industry and the economy and whether they provide value for money.
You will also need to understand how well projects align with the Economic Action Plan and the Well Being of Future Generations Act. This will include considering the project’s fit to the Calls to Action which seeks to ensure that businesses will contribute to the Welsh Government’s goals such as decarbonisation, employee wellbeing and high-quality work in exchange for Government support.
It is the policy of the Welsh Government to promote and integrate equality, diversity and inclusion into all aspects of its business, including appointments to public bodies. Applications are welcomed and encouraged from all groups, and we ensure that no eligible candidate for public office receives less favourable treatment on the grounds of age, disability, gender, marital status, sexual orientation, gender reassignment, race or ethnicity, religion or belief/ non-belief, or pregnancy and maternity. The principles of fair and open competition will apply, and appointments will be made on merit.
