About the Role:
Our Core Technology Team are looking for a Data Platform Engineer who has the passion and determination to work across a broad cross-section of disciplines and technologies. Working collaboratively with other team members, you will help to improve the platforms and services that underpin data services and work to provide innovative capabilities that pull together the Team's diverse sets of data and enable data driven decisions that drive performance. You will thrive on working in a fast paced and ever-changing digital environment where you can apply your passion for data to make a difference to the Team.
As our Data Platform Engineer, your responsibilities will include:
- Collaborating with Business, Data and Solution Architects around BI, analytics and data engineering projects and implementing data platforms and integrations that consume a wide range of technologies, including MS-SQL, MongoDB, Oracle, Snowflake.
- Crafting and developing data integrations across platforms and data stores, providing systems, message brokers, and any required ETL pipelines to bring together data sources and empower the wider Team.
- Data modelling to provide dashboards, data analysis, and BI capabilities for consumers of the data.
- Implementation, support, and maintenance of a broad range of database technologies, (SQL, Mongo, Oracle), and the associated platforms and Business Intelligence services.
To be successful you will have:
Technical Skills
- Experience of consuming and managing various database technologies including Snowflake, MS SQL, Oracle, MongoDB, distributed databases, time-series databases, and data warehouses / data lakes.
- In-depth experience with ETL and associated toolsets (Matillion, Qlik, Python, etc.), with examples of multiple implementations of combining sources of data, transforming, and presenting for analysis.
- In-depth experience with Business Intelligence capabilities and solutions (e.g. Power BI, Spotfire).
- Experience with event streaming, message brokers and other event driven architectures (Kafka, RabbitMQ, etc.) and familiarity with Big Data concepts.
- Knowledge of Cloud-based alternatives and offerings to complement on-premise infrastructures.
- Ideally, managing and operating solutions via command line utilities and working to improve automation and enlist modern practises (DevOps, CI/CD, Ansible, Containerisation etc.).
- Ideally, backed up by vendor certifications (e.g. Microsoft, Linux).

The successful candidate will bring a wide range of experience and skills and be able to combine them with a high attention to detail, enthusiasm, and curiosity.
- A practical individual who is also comfortable strategising and dividing their time between project work, support, and maintenance, and able to work both independently and within a highly collaborative team.
- Organised and initiative-taking, able to communicate clearly, and willing to take ownership and accountability for their work in current and future platforms and processes.
- Keen to use intuition to perform deeper analysis of problems outside of initial skills and knowledge.
- Experience of working in a fast-paced environment with continual demands and changing priorities.
- Confident and with proven ability to execute operations and changes within an ITIL environment.
